As the Memphis-Michigan State game winds down, I have to ask myself, what the heck happened to the Big Ten Conference this year? Sure, MSU made a game of it in the 2nd half versus Memphis, but the outcome was decided in the 1st half. Combine this with the Davidson smackdown of the Wisconsin Badgers, and that's one pretty awful day of basketball summing up one pretty lackluster season of Big Ten Basketball.
Indiana's coach couldn't turn off his cell phone; the team imploded.
Minnesota turned it around, but are still a year or two away from a 2nd round NCAA exit. Tubby Smith is working miracles, but what McDonald's All-American is going to want to go to school in Minnesota? Too damn cold!
Purdue has a nice nucleus, still no reason to think they can get past the Sweet 16 anytime soon.
Ohio State was nothing special without Oden.
Illinois was down this year. Good recruiting will get them back to the Top 15, but not for a year or two.
Michigan. What happened to them??
It's disappointing to see one of the classic conferences wounded as it is. Too many Midwestern kids like Derrick Rose are choosing schools outside the Big Ten, and days like today are the reason. It's time the Big Ten won some of these big games!
